Introduction
In Part 2 of our guide to chart customization, we go beyond basic toolbar functions to explore the deep settings menu of DXtrade. Personalizing your chart environment is not just about aesthetics; it is about ensuring that critical information—like bid/ask spreads, position lines, and price data—is visible and intuitive. This lesson covers how to fine-tune every aspect of your chart’s appearance and how to save your custom layouts so you can load them instantly on any device.
Navigating General Chart Appearance
The General tab in the settings menu provides control over the fundamental visual elements of your chart. You can toggle several features to reduce clutter or add clarity:
-
Grid Lines: Show or hide horizontal and vertical grid lines.
-
Price Markers: Display high and low values for the visible range.
-
Watermark: Enable a background watermark that shows the instrument name and timeframe for quick reference.
-
Crosshair: Customize the behavior and appearance of the crosshair tool.
Chart-Based Trading Settings
The Trading tab is essential for managing your active market engagement directly on the price action. You can enable or disable:
-
Chart Trading: The ability to open orders with buttons directly on the chart.
-
Visual Orders: Displaying lines for active pending orders, open positions, and past executions. Having these visible helps you track your entry and exit points relative to current price action.
Customizing the Chart Legend
The Legend tab controls the data displayed in the top-left corner of your chart window. You can choose to show or hide:
-
Instrument Name: The ticker symbol (e.g., EUR/USD).
-
OHLC Values: The Open, High, Low, and Close prices for the current candle.
-
Volume and Aggregation: Information about trading volume and the selected timeframe.
Managing Scales, Bid, and Ask Lines
In the Scales section, you can modify how price is represented. A critical feature here is the Bid and Ask lines:
-
Select "Label in lines" and then "Bid and Ask" to see both price lines on your chart. This is vital for understanding the current spread and ensuring your entries and exits account for liquidity.
-
You also have the option to Invert or Lock the scale according to your preference.
Advanced Color and Aesthetic Customization
The Colors tab allows you to fully overhaul the look of your platform:
-
Candle Colors: Change the colors of bullish (up) and bearish (down) candles and their wicks.
-
Background: Adjust the chart background color to suit your lighting environment (e.g., dark mode vs. light mode).
-
Reset: If you experiment and want to return to the original look, use the "Reset to default" button.
Adjusting Margins and Saving Layouts
To ensure the chart feels comfortable, use the Paddings tab to add breathing room around the price action:
-
Top/Bottom/Right Margins: Increase the percentage (e.g., 30%) to create more space at the edges of the chart. This is especially helpful for the right margin, as it prevents the most recent candle from being stuck against the price scale.
Crucial Final Step: Once you have perfected your settings, navigate to the top-right corner and select "Save layout as." Name your layout and save it. You can now load this specific configuration at any time with a single click, ensuring your professional workspace is always ready.
