Introduction
Indicators are mathematical tools that help traders analyze price trends, volatility, and momentum. The DXtrade platform provides a wide range of built-in technical indicators, such as Moving Averages, MACD, and Bollinger Bands, to assist in making informed trading decisions. This lesson provides a step-by-step walkthrough on how to add these tools to your chart, customize their settings to match your strategy, and manage multiple indicators for a cleaner workspace.
Accessing the Indicators Menu
To begin adding technical tools to your analysis, navigate to your active chart window. Look for the Function (fx) symbol in the chart toolbar. Clicking this icon opens the indicator library, which contains a variety of analytical tools. If you are unsure what a specific indicator does, you can hover over the question mark next to its name to read a brief description of its function.
Selecting and Adding Indicators
Finding the right tool is simple using the search bar within the function menu:
-
Type the name of the indicator you need (e.g., "Simple Moving Average").
-
To add it to your chart, you can either double-click the indicator name or drag and drop it into the "Added Indicators" box.
Customizing Indicator Parameters
Once an indicator is added, you can fine-tune its mathematical settings to suit your timeframe:
-
Price Source: Choose which data point the indicator should calculate from, such as the Open, High, Low, or Close price.
-
Period/Length: Set the number of candles the indicator should analyze. For example, setting a length of 12 on a Moving Average will calculate the average of the last 12 candles.
-
Displace: This feature allows you to shift the indicator line forward or backward in time on the chart.
Visual Customization and Overlay
You have full control over how an indicator appears on your screen to ensure it doesn't clutter your view:
-
Style: Choose whether the data is displayed as a solid line, dots, a histogram, or a "difference" plot.
-
Color and Thickness: Adjust the line color and pixel thickness to make it stand out against your background.
-
Overlap: If you are using multiple indicators, you can check the "Overlap" box to combine them into the same pane for a more comprehensive, integrated analysis.
Removing Indicators from the Chart
If your chart becomes too crowded or an indicator is no longer needed, you can remove it in two ways:
-
Click the Cross (X) icon directly on the indicator's label on the chart.
-
Re-open the Function (fx) menu and click the cross next to the specific indicator in your "Added" list.
Accessing TradingView Indicators within DXtrade
For traders who require an even more extensive library of tools, DXtrade offers a built-in TradingView integration:
-
Click the Layout icon at the top right of the platform.
-
Select the TradingView Layout.
-
Click the function symbol within this specific layout to access the vast array of community and technical indicators available through the TradingView engine.
